Iran’s architecture has witnessed numerous events in the past 3 decades. Too many buildings have been built and quite a big number of architecture students have graduated from universities. Currently ,there are more than 40 architecture faculties in Iran. Compared to 28 years before, this number shows a big step forward. However, such a considerable increase in the number of students and accordingly graduates does not mean perfection as there are too many problems in the educational system and particularly accommodation procedures.
As a matter of fact, the definition and aim of education is a hotly-debated issue in educational circles. Teaching methods, relationship of teacher and student, psychology, books, etc., all have important roles in education. Unfortunately, there has been a downward trend in the quality of Architecture education in Iran in the past years. There is no uniform and a well-defined syllabus for Architectural courses and each faculty and lecturers have been following their own ways and patterns.
The second problem facing Azad University is the shortage of required facilities. The problem is even worse in small branches in small towns; the Computer sites and laboratories are not well-equipped, libraries are not resourceful enough and most discouragingly, teaching enterprise is mainly handled by “professors” lacking sufficient academic and professional expertise and experience.
In a word, Young people aspire to enter universities to become a “good” architect but due to numerous problems, as some stated above, fail to make their ideals and “dreams” come true. We mustn’t forget our responsibility for our actions and accountability towards the others.
